The “Icing on the Cake”
Melinda's favorite thing to do is to create one of a kind window treatments on challenging windows!. I hear all the time that most drapery workrooms don’t even know what to do or how to do anything on the window OR the client has something in mind and no one knows how to execute it! I’m that person! I have 25 years of owning my own workroom AND installing everything so I can think through how to execute a beautiful window treatment with some of the most complicated situations! The window treatments really become works of art!
It all started when I sewed in 4-H for 9 years. A couple trips to the state fair later, I was hooked! After mentoring a high end drapery workroom in North Georgia, I came back to Ohio and opened Fine Designs & Interiors. I have worked very hard to receive the highest achievement in the window coverings industry with an “Expert” status in the Window Fashions Certified Professional Program and am a current member of the Vision Magazine Advisory Board. Fine Designs & Interiors is now a nationally known, Award Winning drapery workroom with many local accolades. We are known for our wide range of style, ability to find solutions for unusual situations, and for the stunning treatments that make a statement with the attention to detail.
My Process
Just like my Design Services, we will start with a Phone Consultation. I will learn about your project, your budget, your style, and your design preferences and needs. I will set up the In Home appointment at a convenient time for both of us. In preparation for the appointment, I will pull many selections of fabric, trim, hardware, blind sample books, and anything else we may need to pull together this puzzle. I also encourage my clients to look online or in magazines for styles and treatments they like. It helps me to understand their style if they do this.
The Appointment
I will begin by analyzing the room the window treatment is needed for and will listen to your needs. I will bring photos drawings of window treatments for us to get the creative juices flowing and may even sketch out the perfect design. We will then review all the samples of fabrics, trim and hardware and begin the selection process. We will finalize our choices so I am able to provide you an estimated price for the treatment we have designed. If visualizing is a problem, an additional service can be purchased which is a 2-D scaled computer rendering of your window with the proposed treatments. An additional appointment will be set up for the final presentation. Once selections are finalized, measurements are taken and the production process will begin. I will thoroughly manage and oversee the fabrication of our treatment every step of the way to make sure every detail is addressed properly. Once the treatment has been fabricated, my team and I will return to your home to install your treatment. My goal is for you to absolutely LOVE your treatment and feel it is better than you ever expected!
Design Fees are billed at the first consultation at your home and if several rooms need treatments I will put together a Design Package to suit your needs.
Are Custom Window Treatments Expensive?
Addressing the cost issue is always difficult due to the fact that windows vary in size and shape, fabrics vary in price and the designs are totally creative and custom. Once all the selections are made at the home I will go back to my office and price the treatment with all the bells and whistles. I will call and check the stock of the fabric and look at our delivery dates. Once I come up with the price that price will include everything! Fabrics, lining, trim, hardware, fabrication, installation and the tax. The price is presented to the client in written estimate form and I take a 75% downpayment on the order to get it started with the balance due on the day of the installation. All sales are considered final and all custom made products are non-refundable. Custom Window Treatments in our workroom are usually turned around within 4-8 weeks. I always tell my clients that the desired window treatments can be estimated and if the price is too high for the client we start making likable substitutions to fit it in their budget. I will guarantee that they will finish off the room!
