Custom Window Treatments

What is your Style? Could it be Transitional Midwestern?!

I am in contact with several households each year and one of the questions I always ask is , “What is your preferred style?” Sometime this question is easily answered and sometimes it is not. The traditional people know for sure they are traditional and the contemporary people know they are contemporary but the other styles fall somewhere in the middle of all that. Most people will define their style based on what they see in advertisements. Retail stores like Pottery Barn and Restoration Hardware and Ikea have established a style all of their own.

Better Than A Sunburst!

This Beautiful Window Treatment was created by Fine Designs Drapery Workroom a couple of years ago. I was recently in the home to do another project and thought this was definitely worthy of mentioning. Many people don’t know what to do with full arch windows and end up with one of those sheer “sunburst” things in their windows which always seem to sag. That is one of my pet peeves…a poorly made sunburst! To change the thinking process, I tend to swag fabric over posts, drapery hardware or even door knobs to draw the eye up and back down to emphasize the window without covering it up.

The Lake Effect

Many people own small cottages on a lake in addition to their primary home. I had already completely a 2 story window treatment in their primary residence and they loved it so much they wanted me to do their ‘Lake ‘ home windows as well. I was so excited to be able to work on a completely different style of window treatment compared to the previous heavy, luxurious look. When the client met me out at the Lake House I was in love… It was cute, well constructed, and had great bones!
